VIRAKT

About Us

A registered Section 8 non-profit in Ahmedabad, building free libraries across Gujarat and holding rooms where people can be heard. Founded November 2023, funded by monthly donors and CSR partners — no foreign grants.

About Our Foundation

We build slow infrastructure — free libraries that outlast us, and rooms where people who are quietly struggling can simply be heard.

The name comes from virakti, a Sanskrit word for a quiet kind of detachment. Virakt Foundation was registered as a Section 8 non-profit in January 2024 and runs on monthly donors, one-time gifts and CSR partnerships — no foreign grants, no strings. Every rupee in and out is printed, posted and public, every quarter.

Slow infrastructure, not fast programs. Measured in decades. Same library, same Sunday, same chair for thirty years.

Our Values: What Drives Virakt Foundation

Slow Infrastructure

Measured in decades, not quarters. Same library, same Sunday, same chair — for thirty years. We build things designed to outlast the people who started them.

Hold the Room

We do not fix, advise or rescue. We open the door and pour the tea. The work is making space, not filling it.

Public Ledger

Every rupee in, every rupee out. Printed, posted and public, every quarter — so nobody has to take our word for it.

No Marketing Budget

Ever. If the work cannot bring people through the door on its own, we should be doing different work.

How We Work

Two initiatives. Eight projects. Nothing else.

Your Reading Circle puts books within reach — regular meetups in Ahmedabad, thirteen free mini libraries across Gujarat, and full libraries built in remote villages of Gujarat and Bharat.

The Listening Circle makes it ordinary to ask for help — curated two-hour circles with a professional psychologist present, alongside street theatre, awareness and first aid seminars, and city-wide campaigns. Nothing is piloted and abandoned; the point is to still be there in thirty years.
